The number of tourists visiting the UK during the holidays decreased last year. This goes against the global tourist trend: in the world, the number of international travel increased by 6% in 2018. In the United Kingdom, the same foreign tourist flow decreased by 5.3%, while foreign guest spending decreased by 2.3%. Such a decline is explained by the fall in demand among Europeans, who make up two thirds of the UK foreign visitors. VisitBritain data showed that interest in visiting the UK after Brexit fell from 76% in August 2016 to 69% in the autumn of 2018. Another factor was that, despite the fall of the pound, the UK is still regarded as a rather expensive destination for travel.
