Analysts expect about 15 thousand tourists from China to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg during the Eastern New Year.
"In general, the pace of Chinese tourists is quite comparable to 2019. Last year, during the Chinese New Year, about 15 thousand people visited Moscow and St. Petersburg in total, the agency’s source said. “This year, we expect the number of guests from China to be no less.”
Analysts say that over the past three to four years in this traditionally low season for Russia there has been a steady increase in tourists from Asian destinations, in particular from China. "It is noteworthy that they come to us in the winter, despite the fact that in their country there is a stable idea of Russia as a cold country," Agamov explained. “Eight years ago it was impossible to imagine that tourists from the Middle Kingdom will come to us in the midst of cold weather, especially on their holiday.”
Chinese New Year is called the "Golden Week", in 2020 it falls on January 25th.
