Tourism is important to the economy of Southeast Asia, accounting for 12% of Thailand’s gross domestic product, 6% in Malaysia in 2018, and 16% in Cambodia in 2017. But at the same time, the local economy becomes more dependent on the flow of tourists, so it is necessary to constantly increase the number of foreign travelers. For this, visa allowances have recently been introduced for citizens of a number of countries. The total number of overseas guests in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam exceeded 120 million last year, with 20% of them being Chinese. But there is a decrease in the number of tourists from China. For example, in Singapore, the Chinese tourist flow fell by 3% on an annualized basis in December, after a 12% decline in November.
