Grand Egyptian Museum is preparing to open in 2020. The new museum will display the ancient treasures of Egypt, which will attract even more tourists to the country. The project was delayed for various reasons, but now the work is proceeding at an accelerated pace, so opening can be expected by 2020. Meanwhile, the project cost soared from an initial $ 650 million to more than $ 1 billion, with most of the funding coming from Japan. Japan is not only one of the main financial partners of the museum, but also plays a key role in the preservation and restoration of the antiquities of Egypt, many of which are in the process of being transported from the old museum located in the center of Cairo. Now the Egyptian government is betting that massive investments in infrastructure will revive the economy, weakened by decades of stagnation and destroyed by unrest after the 2011 uprising.
